Bile – Production & Storage

📝 Introduction

Bile is not an enzyme but a digestive fluid that helps in fat digestion and maintaining conditions for enzymes to work.

🔑 Key Points

  • Produced by: Liver
  • Stored in: Gall bladder
  • Released into: Duodenum (first part of small intestine) through bile duct

⚙️ Functions of Bile

  • Emulsification of fats
Breaks large fat droplets into tiny droplets.
Increases surface area for lipase to act on → faster digestion.
  • Neutralisation of stomach acid
Food from stomach is very acidic.
Bile is alkaline → neutralises acid → provides alkaline pH for enzymes (like lipase & trypsin) to work properly.

⚡ Quick Recap
Made in liver, kept in gall bladder.
Breaks fats into droplets (emulsification).
Neutralises acid → enzymes work better.
Not an enzyme itself, but vital for digestion.
