Paper 2A includes data-based questions from unfamiliar contexts and short-answer questions.
Paper 2B includes extended-response questions that focus on holistic knowledge and understanding of a wide range of syllabus content, skills, concepts and understandings.

The physics curriculum is grouped into five broad organizing themes, each of which are subdivided into several topics.

- The internal assessment (IA) will now be a scientific investigation, requiring students to design, conduct, and analyze an experiment.

- A.3 Work, energy and power SL Paper 1
- A.4 Rigid body mechanics HL Only
- A.5 Galilean and special relativity HL Only
- Increased focus on conceptual understanding and practical skills.

- New themes and topics that better reflect the interconnectedness of physics.
