IB MYP Integrated Sciences e-Assessment : Electric circuits Exam Style Practice Questions - New Syllabus

Question (3 marks)

A student wants to investigate the relationship between voltage (V) and current (I) modelled by the formula $\text{V=IR}$ where $\text{R= resistance}$. He uses the setup below to determine the resistance of a copper wire.

Use the tool to draw a circuit diagram of the equipment above.

▶️Answer/Explanation

Ans:

Power Supply: The DC power supply is the source of electrical energy.

Ammeter: The ammeter is connected in series with the copper wire to measure the current flowing through it.

Switch: The switch is also in series and controls the flow of current.

Resistor (Copper Wire): The copper wire is the component whose resistance is being measured.

Voltmeter: The voltmeter is connected in parallel across the copper wire to measure the voltage drop across it.
