[q] Absolute value graphs
y = |f(x)| GRAPHS
To sketch this, replace any section of the graph that’s below the x-axis by reflecting it above the x-axis.
y = f(|x|) GRAPHS
The portion of the graph to the right of the y-axis is reflected over the y-axis, replacing what was on the left.

RECIPROCAL \( \frac{1}{f(x)} \) GRAPH
– For vertical asymptote, solve \( f(x) = 0 \).
– As \( x \to \infty \), \( f(x) \to 0 \), H.A. at \( y = 0 \).
– Y-intercept at \( x = 0 \).
– Test values on either side of vertical asymptotes to see the general shape.
[a]
SOLVING ABSOLUTE VALUE EQUATIONS
A good tactic here is to square both sides, as that negates the absolute value nature of the expression.
