[h] SL 3.5 Definition of cos sin and tan angles

[q] Unit Circle

[a] Defined as a cricle with its centre at the origin and radius of 1.

[q] Specific Values

[a] You must learn the specific values of \(sin\theta\) and \(cos\theta \) which includes all the multiples of \(\frac{\Pi}{6}\) and \(\frac{\Pi}{4}\). Due to the periodic nature of sin and cos, the values repeat after every \(\frac{2\Pi}{360°}\).

[q] Tan

[a]
Since,  \(sin\theta= \frac{Perpendicular}{Hypotenuse}\) and \(cos\theta= \frac{Base}{Hypotenuse}\).
\(tan\theta= \frac{Perpendicular}{Base} = \frac{sin\theta}{cos\theta}\).
This will allow you to find all the exact values of ‘tan’ and will also help you in solving trigonometric equations and provid identities.

[q] Ambigious Sine Rule

[a] You may see that the values of sine from 0° to 90° are repeated and reveresed from 90° to 180°. This means, when using the sine rules, you can get two valid answers. Choose one, based on context of diagram or stated restrictions.
