(c) ![]()
From this list of numbers, write down:
(i) a multiple of 16
(ii) a factor of 24
(iii) a cube number
(iv) a prime number.
(d) Put one pair of brackets into this calculation to make it correct: \(10 – 12 \div 4 + 2 = 8\)
(e) By writing each number in the calculation correct to 1 significant figure, find an estimate for the value of
\(\frac{8.65 \times 596}{0.047}\)
You must show all your working.
(f) Calculate \(\frac{(8 \times 10^3) \times (10 \times 10^2)}{6}\).
Give your answer in standard form.
(g) \(216 = 2^{3} /times 3^{3}\)
Write 2160 as a product of its prime factors.
▶️ Answer/Explanation
(a) 6,000,030 – Just write six million as 6,000,000 and thirty as 30.
(b) 7.90 – Look at the third decimal (6) to round the second decimal (9) up.
(c) (i) 48 (16×3) (ii) 8 or 24 (both divide 24) (iii) 8 (2×2×2) (iv) 41 (only divisible by 1 and itself).
(d) \(10 – 12 \div (4 + 2) = 8\) – The brackets make the division happen first.
(e) ≈600 – Round numbers: 8.65≈9, 596≈600, 0.047≈0.05. Then 9×600÷0.05=600.
(f) \(1.33 \times 10^6\) – Calculate 8×10=80, 10³×10²=10⁵, so (80×10⁵)/6≈1.33×10⁶.
(g) \(2^4 \times 3^3 \times 5\) – Break down 2160: 2160=216×10=6³×2×5=2³×3³×2×5=2⁴×3³×5.
